Sail north from Bergen to Kirkenes on Havila’s spectacular 7-day Norwegian Coastal Voyage, travelling more than 2,000 kilometres through fjords, islands, fishing villages and Arctic landscapes. Calling at 34 ports, the northbound journey includes highlights such as Ålesund, Trondheim, the Lofoten Islands, Tromsø and Honningsvåg, with the opportunity to visit the North Cape.
A major part of the Havila experience is the dining. Meals onboard showcase fresh Norwegian ingredients and flavours from the regions you sail through, with beautifully presented dishes served in Havrand Restaurant and the option to enjoy a more refined experience at Hildring Fine Dining. Havila places a strong emphasis on quality, local produce and reducing food waste, making the culinary experience an important part of the journey rather than simply a meal between destinations.
We choose the northbound voyage as it is one day longer and includes more port calls than the 6-day southbound Kirkenes to Bergen sailing. The two directions also operate to different schedules, meaning ports are experienced at different times of day. For our itineraries, Bergen to Kirkenes offers a wonderfully complete journey, gradually taking you from Norway’s western fjords across the Arctic Circle and into the far north.

Your Norwegian coastal adventure begins in Bergen, the historic gateway to the fjords. Before boarding, take some time to explore this colourful harbour city, home to the UNESCO-listed Bryggen wharf, lively fish market and charming cobbled streets.
This evening, board your Havila ship and settle into your cabin as you begin your journey north along Norway’s spectacular coastline.

Wake to beautiful coastal scenery as the ship calls at Florø, Måløy and Torvik before arriving in Ålesund. Famous for its distinctive Art Nouveau architecture, Ålesund is beautifully positioned across a collection of islands surrounded by mountains and sea.
From April to August, the voyage continues into the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord, where steep mountains rise dramatically from the water and waterfalls tumble down the cliffs. During September and October, the route instead visits the beautiful Hjørundfjord. In winter, additional time is spent in Ålesund before continuing north towards Molde.
Ports: Florø – Måløy – Torvik – Ålesund – Geirangerfjord/Hjørundfjord seasonally – Ålesund – Molde.
Arrive this morning in Trondheim, one of Norway’s oldest and most historic cities. With several hours in port, there is time to explore the city centre, stroll alongside the colourful warehouses lining the Nidelva River or visit impressive Nidaros Cathedral.
Later, return to the ship as you sail through Trondheim Fjord and continue north through islands and coastal communities towards Rørvik.

Today you officially enter Arctic Norway as the ship crosses the Arctic Circle. The scenery becomes increasingly dramatic as you travel along the Helgeland Coast and onwards to Bodø.
Depending on the season, you may experience the Midnight Sun, long days of Arctic light or the dark winter skies that offer opportunities for the Northern Lights.
This evening, sail into the spectacular Lofoten Islands, where steep mountains rise directly from the sea and small fishing villages sit beneath dramatic peaks. Calls are made at Stamsund and Svolvær before continuing north.
Ports: Brønnøysund – Sandnessjøen – Nesna – Ørnes – Bodø – Stamsund – Svolvær.
Continue through the islands and narrow waterways of northern Norway, passing through the Vesterålen region and calling at Stokmarknes, Sortland, Risøyhamn, Harstad and Finnsnes.
This afternoon you arrive in Tromsø, often referred to as the Capital of the Arctic. With approximately four hours in port, there is time to explore independently or choose from a range of optional excursions. Tromsø has a fascinating history linked to Arctic expeditions, fishing and life in Norway’s far north.
After departing Tromsø, continue through dramatic fjords and mountain scenery towards Skjervøy.

Today brings you deep into Norway’s far north, travelling through remote Arctic landscapes and small coastal communities.
One of the major highlights is Honningsvåg, the gateway to the North Cape. The ship has a longer daytime stop here, allowing time to join an optional excursion to the North Cape Plateau, where dramatic cliffs rise more than 300 metres above the Barents Sea.
Continue east through some of Norway’s most remote coastline, with calls at Kjøllefjord, Mehamn and Berlevåg. Optional experiences may include Sami culture, Arctic nature and seasonal activities.
Ports: Hammerfest – Havøysund – Honningsvåg – Kjøllefjord – Mehamn – Berlevåg.
Your final morning takes you along the remote Finnmark coast, with calls at Båtsfjord, Vardø and Vadsø before reaching Kirkenes.
Located in Norway’s far north-east, close to the Finnish and Russian borders, Kirkenes has a fascinating Arctic history and feels very different from the western Norwegian cities where your journey began.
Your Havila coastal voyage concludes on arrival in Kirkenes at approximately 09:00. From here, continue your Scandinavian adventure or spend some time discovering this unique corner of Arctic Norway.

Travellers are responsible for ensuring passports meet the validity and entry requirements of all countries visited. For the Schengen Area, Australian passports generally must:

Nordic itineraries may involve walking on snow/ice, uneven surfaces, stairs, boats, snowmobiles, carrying luggage and extended periods outdoors in cold weather. Activities may have age, height, health, mobility or licensing requirements.
Medical conditions, mobility limitations and accessibility needs should be advised at booking so suitable arrangements can be considered.
Dietary requirements and allergies should be advised at booking. We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate them, but cannot guarantee this, particularly in remote or wilderness locations. Travellers with serious allergies should also confirm requirements directly with meal providers.
Travellers on self-drive itineraries are responsible for holding the appropriate licence for the destination and rental provider. A valid physical licence may also be required for activities such as snowmobiling.
Accommodation will be booked in the room category shown on your confirmed itinerary. Scandinavian rooms may be smaller than Australian equivalents and configurations can differ.
Twin rooms commonly have two single beds, sometimes positioned together. Additional beds may be sofa or rollaway beds. Double rooms may also use two single beds together, with separate doonas.
If accommodation must change due to circumstances outside our control, we will seek a similar or higher standard wherever possible.
Porterage is generally not included. Travellers should be comfortable managing their own luggage.
Some trains, flights, coaches, ferries, transfers and vehicles have luggage limits. Any applicable restrictions will be advised in your travel documents. One manageable suitcase per person is recommended. Excess luggage charges are the traveller’s responsibility.
Scandinavian and Lapland travel can involve very cold temperatures, snow, ice and rapidly changing weather. Appropriate thermal layers, waterproof outerwear, gloves, hats and suitable footwear are essential. Summer weather can also change quickly, so rain protection is recommended.
Weather, road conditions or operational issues may require activities or transport to be delayed, modified, rescheduled or replaced. Safety takes priority, and suitable alternatives will be arranged where reasonably possible.
The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed. Sightings depend on solar activity, weather, cloud cover and darkness. Tours are designed to maximise viewing opportunities but cannot guarantee a sighting.
Weather, transport schedules, supplier operations and other circumstances may require changes to accommodation, transport, activities or itinerary order. Where possible, comparable alternatives will be arranged and significant changes communicated.
Changes and cancellations are subject to supplier conditions and may incur fees. Some services are non-refundable from booking, with Christmas/New Year arrangements often having stricter conditions.
